But I don’t see many movies or watch many TV shows, so I usually just keep a casual eye on the the big events and parties — enough for some good watercooler talk, you know!

It strikes me, though, that Growing Bolder could produce a pretty amazing awards show of our own. We have a great cast of characters (only their stories are real) and plenty of drama and comedy to fill a few spots!

So, here are my nominees.

WUCF TV Grows ‘Bolder’ With Inspirational Programming for 50+ Audiences

You can read the full announcement on WUCF-TV’s website or in this official news release, but here’s the short version: WUCF-TV, the brand new PBS station that operates from America’s second-largest university, is the presenting station for Growing Bolder TV, starting with Season 3.

That means that we will be even bigger and bolder in 2012 than we’ve ever been, and we’re working on some exciting projects with WUCF that will help us highlight YOU…the ordinary people living extraordinary lives.

And we’re already looking for stories to feature in Season 4 and beyond, so if you know of somebody we should feature (maybe as part of our new How Are You Growing Bolder segment?) please leave us a comment and let us know!

Quit Bad Habits: Second Chance at Life

At age 68, Larry Pontius had a life expectancy counted in single-digit days. Even the smallest things reminded him of his own mortality — commercials for a football season he might never see; pictures of places he might never get to visit. Then came a life-changing call.

So what’s your resolution?

But like most families, as the years have gone by, we’ve gotten lazy about having our pictures taken. We are always snapping shots in the office or on shoots, but never seem to take the time and pose as a group. And I really wanted to create our first staff holiday card.

So this year, I was determined to change it. I sent an email around, asking everyone to mark the date and bring their best Team GB spirit.

And bring it they did!

That’s the finished product (well, one of them…we have lots of fun photos to share!) and I couldn’t be happier.

Of course, since I didn’t know if I’d ever be able to get us together again, I made sure to get lots of pictures.

Do you have a hard time getting the family together for pictures?

I’ve been dragging my feet on putting up decorations. We live in Florida, so the weather seems too warm, the palm trees too tropical, for these December traditions to feel real. But unless I have a tree, some tinsel, stockings hung by the fireplace pool deck with care, I will never get in the spirit, so this week, I’m digging out all of my goodies and putting them on display.

And when I do, I’ll look back at celebrations of yore. The year my parents wrapped a $100 bill (big money for a 13-year-old!) in box after box, like one of those Russian nesting doll sets. Or the year that my brother and I got to hang out with Santa together.

I think of the rules my mom always enforced — stockings for ravaging immediately after waking up, but no presents until after breakfast.

I look back fondly at some of the memories my husband and I have started to make — our pink feather Christmas tree, for instance, or our annual walk through the neighborhood to look at decorations and light displays.

And I realize that for me, the holidays will always be about reflecting on how blessed I am…I have a job I love, a home, a family that supports my every move, friends that inspire me and hobbies that make me feel great.

I know that not everyone can say that this year, and my heart breaks a little when I think of what they’re going through.

So the best I can say is — from the bottom of my heart, I wish you a very happy holiday season.
